The Bat-man before merchandising.

Here are a few stills from the first batman series in the 1940s ....

Batman was of course played by Lewis Wilson and robin was played by Douglas Croft.

It is interesting to look at the way the batman costume has changed over the decades.

Although in a early Adam West screen test the batman costume is very like the original.

Hotwheels batmobile 1/64 update..

Just a quick note to tell you all that you can still get the little 1/64 scale hotwheels batmobile as I found three of them in tescos (supermarket) yesterday so they are still out there and I would advise anyone to get themselves a few of these baby's as the chances are that in a few years they will be worth more than you paid for them and become a minor classic.

Gotta go, back soon.

Batman costume accessories gift sets from the 80s

Batman gift sets from 1982 bought on ebay

The New Hotwheels Batmobiles.
Japanese release hotwheels 1/64 scale Batmobile
For any bat fans that have been living under a rock for the last year, Hotwheels released this very cool and quite accurate version of a 1/64 scale Batmobile last year and was for a time the hottest hotwheels diecast car for sale on ebay.. these are still easy to find in stores for now!
The rarest versions are the first run of these with the smoothe grill. there are a few unintentional factory variations of these such as the wrong wheels fitted, wrong transfers and one I have myself ... no windscreens fitted at all to the car.

The merchandising of Batman started in earnest during the run of the 60s Tv series

Probably the most loved and iconic diecast toy came from Corgi with the introduction of their 267 batmobile based on the batmobile designed by george barris who bought the Lincon Futura a concept car that was hand built for ford in Italy by ghia for the princely sum of $1.00 and based his batmobile car design on it. The loncon had its first taste of fame in the movie, 'It Started With A Kiss', with Glen Ford

The George Barris Batmobile....

The first run of the 66 corgi 267 batmobile was the most detailed of the production run and as time went on corgi made many changes to gadgets on the car but the body shell basically stayed the same the changes were made to make the car more easy to produce and even had a tow hook added when corgi brought out their version of the batboat.

A late model original Corgi 267 Batmobile bought on ebay

Corgi started producing the 267 batmobile in 1966 and produced the toy till the 1980s these toys are getting harder to find in boxed mint condition these days and go for huge prices so most people who want a mint version have to buy one on ebay and restore the Batmobile back to its original condition.

This blog will explore the world of collecting batman and superhero memorabilia

Collecting superhero memorbilia, toys and games has been a lifelong hobby for me and thousands of other dedicated superhero fans.

Today I want to talk briefly about the origins of the batman....

Batman first appeared in 1940 in the series of"detective comics"
The plot of Batman is that he is a rich socialite called Bruce Wayne, who as a child watched his parents murdered in a street hold up, As he grew up bruce vowed to stop villains of all kinds. Usually aided by his young ward dick grayson , AKA Robin, his butler Alfred Pennyworth, the city police commissioner Gordon, and chief o hara, gordon's daughter Barbara AKA Batgirl and others. Some of the villians he continues to fight to this day are The Penguin, The Joker, Catwoman, The Mad Hatter, Mr. Freeze, The Riddler, and Two Face to mention just a few...

The amount of batman merchandise on the market today is huge and I am going to pick old and new items to talk about in future posts.
